How to get the Content Organizer to automatically create folders

[ 0 ] June 29, 2010 |

One of the great things that the Content Organizer allows you to do is to create folders for each unique value of a property which makes it really useful in situations for organising content without having to create hundreds of folders.

However you might have seen this when you have tried to create a Content Organizer rule:

Can't create a folder

So why is this? Well the reason is that for this particular Content Type the field that we want to automatically create a folder on is set to optional in the content type (The Government ID Number field):

Field not marked as required

If we change this to required and try to add  the rule again it all works fine.

Required on the Content Type means goodness in the Content Type Organizer Rules

So remember if you want to automatically create folders based on a property they must be required in the content type!
